How to Decorate with Greenery Before Thanksgiving (Without Jumping to Christmas)

I know I’m not the only one who gets excited about decorating for Christmas! It snowed here over the weekend so I’m definitely in holiday mode. But I know people are against decorating for Christmas without even giving Thanksgiving it’s proper time. Decorating with holiday greenery before Thanksgiving can bring the cozy holiday spirit into your home without jumping too quickly into Christmas. By choosing the right natural accents, you can create a festive atmosphere that complements the autumn season, welcoming the holidays in a subtle, timeless way.

Garlands

Drape garlands of pine, cedar, or fir along mantels, staircases, or entryways to add warmth without making things feel overly Christmas-focused. Keep them simple at first! Then, once Thanksgiving is over, you can add lights and other holiday decor to your garland! Here are some faux garland options I love!

Faux Christmas Tree Without Ornaments

Putting up a bare faux Christmas tree can create a sense of anticipation without crossing fully into the Christmas season. A simple, undecorated tree brings warmth to your space while acting as a blank canvas, building the anticipation for Christmas! Adding soft lighting, like white or warm-toned string lights, can make it feel extra cozy without overwhelming the Thanksgiving aesthetic. I got this viral pre-lit Christmas tree and I absolutely love it. I get why it went viral!

Berry Branches and Dried Botanicals

Add a bit of color to your decor with holly branches, bittersweet, or pine branches. These bring out deep reds and orange tones that complement fall decor, blending well with pumpkins, gourds, or earthy-colored candles while nodding to holiday decor. You can add these to other arrangements around your home! Here are some beautiful faux options I love!

Wreaths

A classic wreath, whether of boxwood, olive, or even magnolia leaves, brings warmth to your door or wall. Go for a simple look or include seasonal additions like small berries or dried oranges to keep it fitting for autumn and early winter without becoming overly festive.

Decorating with a range of greenery allows you to ease into the holiday spirit while embracing the transitional beauty of late autumn. You can see more neutral seasonal home decor here in this blog post!
