Another baby is on the way!! We are expecting our third boy! As soon as I found out that I was pregnant, I started thinking about the nursery. I knew this would be the last baby and therefore, the last nursery. I wanted to make it extra special.
I decided to move my boys into a new room so that the nursery would be close to the master bedroom. In order to make it more special for my boys, I started with a room renovation for them. Be sure to check back for the boys’ room reveal soon! Once all of their furniture was removed, I could begin the nursery renovation.
The craziest part of this nursery renovation is that I decided to tackle it all in one weekend! I worked alongside a few other DIY bloggers that were renovating spaces of their own. We each started renovating our spaces on Friday and shared the finished renovation on Sunday.
The Before
The boys’ room was a little tight (or cozy) before. Their furniture was big and bulky and made the room feel smaller, although it is a relatively large room. On one wall, I had made a geometric accent wall. We set up the boy’s beds end to end to save as much space as we could.
On the other side of the room was a wall of closets with all of the bulky furniture. We had a large dresser between the two closet doors. Our recliner that we purchased for my first born was awkwardly tucked in the corner. It was hard to get around the chair to access the closet. Not to mention, the closet bi-fold doors that were falling apart..
I kept the decor in this room rather simple to offset the large furniture. It was definitely time for change!
Out with the Old
Once everything was out of the room, I could begin planning the nursery. It was a lot easier to envision things once the large furniture was removed!
I had already tried to repair the old bi-fold closet doors once before. Instead of repairing them again, I decided to replace them with new French doors, like I have done in several rooms in our home. Once the black closet doors were gone, the room felt huge!
Board and Batten Wall
The first thing I decided to do with the room was install a board and batten wall that wrapped around the entire room. Instead of installing a traditional board and batten wall, I changed it up a little with a more modern design.
Another decision I needed to make was how to paint the closet doors. I considered painting them white, black or the same color as the board and batten. I ultimately decided to color block them…and I’m so glad I did! It took what could have been a really choppy wall and made it into a statement piece!

Feature Wall Stencil

With the board and batten wrapping around the entire room, I thought that the feature wall needed a little something extra. I wanted to minimize the amount of wall art that I hung above the crib. I’ve been wanting to try a wall stencil…what better space to stencil than this?!
I chose to use Cutting Edge Stencils Hand Drawn Chevron stencil. I feel like this stencil was the perfect compliment to the board and batten wall!
Stenciling was so much easier than I expected! It really didn’t take long either. Check out my post about how I stenciled this wall. Stenciling is a great way to affordably add character to any room.
The Big Reveal
Here it is…the final product of a weekend renovation! It was quite a weekend with lots of productivity. I’m so happy with all that I was able to accomplish in such a short time and I absolutely love the nursery!
These are the new color blocked French doors that we (my husband actually helped me with this part of the renovation) installed in place of the bi-fold doors. I finished them off with my favorite affordable hardware. These are the Goldenwarm black cabinet pulls that are 11-1/3″ center to center.
With my first two babies, I used the main dresser as the changing table. I chose to hide the large dresser in this nursery. Instead of using the dresser as the changing table, I bought a much smaller dresser. I wanted mid-century modern furniture for the nursery and loved the clean design of the Marley 3 Drawer Dresser by Baby Mod.
One thing I like having above the changing table is hanging hooks. I made this peg board from a dowel and piece of wood. I stained the pegs to closely match the wooden legs of both the dresser and crib. It’s nice to have outfits within reach and a spot to hang toys.
I absolutely love mid-century modern furniture! I don’t currently have any in our home…so why not add some to the nursery?! Baby Mod’s Marley 3-in-1 Convertible Crib immediately caught my eye. I love the clean and simple design of this crib!
I added one piece of wall art above the crib. This is a lightweight print, so I felt comfortable hanging it here (I’m a bit of a freak about hanging things above my kids’ beds). I also hung a reading light over the rocking chair for all of our late night cuddles.
This nursery is everything I hoped it would be! It is such a warm and cozy space. I can’t wait to rock my sweet baby boy in this room!
