If you’re tired of stepping on stray LEGO bricks and needing a place for your child’s LEGO cars, I have the perfect solution for you. In this blog post, we’ll dive into the exciting world of yet another IKEA hack and explore a creative approach to LEGO storage using the versatile IKEA pegboard.
My son is in love with all things LEGO! So I decided to create a storage solution for his LEGO cars. This won’t be the first time I have built him something for his LEGO collection. Not to long ago I built him this Large LEGO tray and he is still loving it.
Anyone can do this DIY, all you need is an IKEA close by and a hot glue gun.

How To Use The IKEA Pegboard For LEGO Storage
Determine How Big You Want Your LEGO Storage
When at IKEA you will find they have a whole system that uses pegboards. The exact pegboard that I bought from IKEA with the tire tracks are the UPPSEPEL Pegboard in the color black. They also have SKADIS Pegboards that come in a few different colors too.
This project can definitely be customized by color and size, so pick what speaks to you! I chose 3 total pegboards for our space.
Hang Pegboards & Install LEGO Pieces
Once you have your pegboards, install them on the wall according to the IKEA instructions. To hang the LEGO cars you will need a few extra pieces of LEGO and a hot glue gun.
Pick where you want to hang the cars and use your hot glue gun to attach the extra LEGO. The hot glue will not damage the LEGO brick, in my experience it just peels right off the back whenever you want to take them off the board permanently.
I did find that it was best to put these in places on the pegboard where it did not flex as much when pressure was applied…such as near the mounting points.
One thing to consider is it may damage the pegboard if you plan on ever removing those pieces. So keep that in mind if you plan on ever repurposing the pegboard.
If you do not wish to glue bricks to the pegboard for the smaller cars, IKEA sells trays that work well too! As for other ways to hang the bigger cars I picked up a few of the SKADIS Hooks that they sell at IKEA.
To make things even more fun I added some lights from IKEA behind the pegboard so that it lights up at night! I used the adhesive backing to secure the lights to the mounting hardware. I would not recommend using the adhesive to stick the lights to the wall…I have seen them cause damage to the drywall upon removal.
There you have it, a very simple way to store LEGO cars!
